Checkout Split Payouts: Route One Payment to Several Business Wallets Automatically

News

With checkout split payouts, a single customer payment can be shared automatically across operations, reserve or partner wallets within your business — by percentage or fixed amount.

Every sale a business makes has a job to do. Part of it covers operations, part goes to savings, and sometimes part belongs to a partner or another branch. Moving that money by hand after every payment is slow and easy to get wrong.

Checkout split payouts on Paysasa solve this. After a checkout payment succeeds, Paysasa can automatically route portions of it to other wallets in the same business. This feature is available on Paysasa today. Here is how it works.

What are checkout split payouts?

When a customer pays through Paysasa checkout, the full amount lands in the business's primary checkout wallet. With split payouts enabled, Paysasa then moves agreed portions from that wallet into other wallets belonging to the same business — automatically, every time.

Two ways to split

Percentage splits

Share each payment proportionally. For example, 60% to a fulfilment wallet and 40% to a marketing wallet. Percentages can add up to 100%; anything not allocated stays in the primary wallet.

Fixed splits

Send an exact amount to each recipient wallet, for example KES 100 to a reserve wallet on every order. Fixed amounts can add up to the session total, with any remainder staying in the primary wallet.

Defaults or per checkout

  • Business defaults: set reusable percentage splits once under Business Settings → Default Checkout Split, and they apply automatically to checkout sessions.
  • Per session: developers can turn splits on or off for an individual checkout session, choose percentage or fixed mode and pass the recipients. Passing `use_split: false` disables the defaults for a single session.

Rules to know

  • Recipient wallets must be secondary wallets in the same business and in the same currency as the checkout session.
  • Cross-business and personal wallets are not supported as split recipients.
  • You can create additional same-currency wallets with a clear display name in Business Settings.

Setting up a default split

  1. Open your business in the Paysasa dashboard.
  2. Create the extra wallets you need — for example "Reserve" or "Branch 2" — in the same currency as your checkout.
  3. Go to Business Settings → Default Checkout Split.
  4. Choose recipient wallets and their percentages.
  5. Save. New checkout sessions will apply the split automatically unless a session turns it off.

Ideas for using split payouts

Build a reserve automatically

Route a fixed percentage of every sale into a reserve wallet for slow months, emergencies or tax obligations. It is the easiest savings habit a business can build.

Separate branches or product lines

A business with two outlets or two product lines can keep each one's income in its own wallet, making it easier to see what each part of the business earns.

Set aside operating costs

A delivery business might route a share of every order to a wallet used for fuel and rider costs, so the money is ready when it is needed.

Ring-fence marketing budgets

Allocate a small percentage of revenue to a marketing wallet that funds promotions — growth that scales with sales.

An illustrative example

Imagine a bakery in Nyeri that sells cakes online through Paysasa checkout. The owner sets a default split: 10% of every payment to a reserve wallet and 20% to an ingredients wallet. When a customer pays for a birthday cake, the money arrives in the main wallet and the reserve and ingredients portions move automatically. At the end of the month, the reserve has grown without any extra effort.

For developers

Splits are available through the Paysasa API on `POST /checkout/sessions`, as well as the POS-focused `POST /checkout/requests`, using `use_split`, `split_mode` and `split_recipients`. Amounts are in minor units. Full details, including examples for both modes, are in the Paysasa API docs.

Why it matters

  • Less manual work — no more moving money after every sale.
  • Fewer mistakes — rules run the same way every time.
  • Better financial discipline — reserves and budgets are funded automatically.
  • Clear records — each split movement is traceable.

Conclusion

Checkout split payouts turn good financial intentions into automatic habits. Whether you want a reserve, separate branch wallets or ring-fenced budgets, a few minutes of setup means every future payment is shared exactly the way you planned.
