Payment links are the quickest way to get paid online. Learn how to create a Paysasa payment link, share it on WhatsApp or social media and track payments as they arrive.
A payment link is exactly what it sounds like: a web link that takes your customer straight to a page where they can pay you. No need to share your phone number, explain Paybill steps or wait for screenshots. You send the link; they pay; you see it in your dashboard.
This guide shows you how to create a payment link on Paysasa, share it and track the payments.
Before you start
You will need:
A Paysasa account with KYC completed.
A business set up under Businesses, with verification complete. Unverified businesses may be blocked from collecting.
If you have not done this yet, follow our guide to creating an account and completing KYC first.
Step 1: Open Payment links
Sign in to Paysasa at app.paysasa.com.
Open Payment links from your dashboard (app.paysasa.com/dashboard/payment-links).
If you do not see it, check Module settings to make sure the module is switched on for your account. Availability of some modules can vary by account.
Creating and using a payment link
Step 2: Create the link
Click to create a new payment link.
Choose the business the payment should go to.
Enter a clear title, such as "Ankara dress — size M" or "Photography deposit".
Enter the amount and currency. Some links are fixed-price; others can be used for open-amount collections where enabled.
Add a description so the customer knows exactly what they are paying for.
Save the link.
Payment links are reusable and do not expire by default, so one link can be used for many customers — handy for a standard product or service.
Tips for a clear link
Use a title the customer will recognise instantly.
Include key details — size, colour, date, session time — in the description.
Create separate links for different products or prices rather than one confusing link.
Step 3: Share the link
Copy the link and share it wherever your customers are:
WhatsApp: paste it into a chat, a status update or your WhatsApp Business catalogue.
Instagram, TikTok and Facebook: add it to your bio or send it in DMs.
Email and SMS: include it in order confirmations or quotes.
Your website: add it to a "Pay now" button.
Tip: Add a short message with the link: "Here's your secure payment link for the dress. Once paid, we'll dispatch today."
Step 4: The customer pays
Your customer opens the link, sees the title, amount and description, and pays with one of the methods available — for example M-Pesa for KES payments. They do not need to type your Paybill or phone number.

Step 5: Track payments
Open Transactions in your dashboard to see payments as they arrive, each with its reference.
Use the payment link page to review the link's activity.
Only fulfil orders once the payment shows in your dashboard — never on the basis of a screenshot or forwarded SMS.
An illustrative example
Imagine a baker in Kitengela who takes cake orders on Instagram. She creates three reusable links — one for each cake size — with prices and pickup details in the description. When a customer messages, she replies with the matching link. Payments arrive in her business wallet with references, and she starts baking only once the payment appears in her dashboard. No more back-and-forth about Paybill numbers or screenshots.
Payment link, invoice or checkout?
Payment link: quick, reusable, perfect for social selling and standard prices.
Invoice: best when you need line items, due dates and partial payments.
Checkout session: best for websites and apps, created through the API with redirects after payment.
For developers
Payment links can also be created through the Paysasa API with a business ID, title, amount in minor units, currency and description. The response includes the link URL you can share. See the Paysasa API docs for details.
Troubleshooting
Customer says the link does not work: check the link is active and that you copied the full URL.
Payment not showing: ask the customer to confirm they completed the M-Pesa prompt; check Transactions again after a moment.
Cannot create a link: confirm your KYC and business verification are complete.
Conclusion
Payment links are one of the fastest ways to start getting paid online. In a few minutes you can create a link, share it on WhatsApp or social media and watch payments arrive with clear references — no more "send to my number".
