The register is the heart of any point of sale. If it is slow or confusing, queues grow, staff take shortcuts and sales go unrecorded. We built the Xduka POS register for the pace of a busy duka: quick to learn, fast to use and flexible enough for the many ways African customers pay.
In this post we take a detailed look at what the register can do.
Built for speed

Find products in seconds
The register's catalog can be searched by name, SKU or barcode. Scan a barcode with a scanner, or type a few letters of the product name. You can also filter by category or show low-stock items, and page through the catalog. A store setting controls whether product images are shown on the register by default, which helps when staff recognise items by picture.
A cart that does the maths
Add items, change quantities and let the cart calculate the subtotal, delivery charges and total. Taxes are handled according to your product and store settings, including taxable flags, VAT overrides and an option to show tax-inclusive totals.
Customers in a tap
Attach a sale to an existing customer by searching name, phone or email, or capture a walk-in's name, phone and email. That builds purchase history and lets you send digital receipts.
Discounts at checkout
Apply a discount to the sale directly from the cart. Discounts can be configured in the Discounts area as percentages or fixed amounts, with codes, minimum order amounts and date ranges.
Every way your customers pay
The register supports cash, M-Pesa, card, bank and Paysasa checkout, with Paysasa payments running through our sister platform:
- Cash: record the amount received.
- M-Pesa: record the M-Pesa reference code.
- Card and bank: record a reference.
- Paysasa STK push: send a payment prompt straight to the customer's phone.
- Paysasa checkout request: create a hosted checkout link and QR code for the customer.
- Split payments: combine methods on one sale, such as part cash and part M-Pesa.
Because Paysasa payments start from the sale, the amount is always right and the reference is stored with the order.
Lipa Polepole at the counter
For bigger purchases, the register can set up a Lipa Polepole layaway: attach the order to a customer account, take an optional deposit, set a due date and add notes. You can even create the customer on the spot if they are new.
Pickup or delivery
Choose Pickup in store or Ship to address. For deliveries, select a delivery profile from your settings (each with its own fee, minimum order and ETA) and capture the recipient name, address, city and notes. Delivery orders then appear on the Deliveries board.
Finishing the sale
When the sale is complete, the register shows Sale Complete! with options to:
- Print a thermal receipt.
- Send a digital receipt by SMS or email.
- Start a new sale.
Receipt settings let you show a QR code and your store logo, and open the cash drawer on cash sales.

Works on your devices
The register is part of an installable web app that runs on desktops, phones and small tablets. We have tightened dashboard spacing, quick actions, barcode scanning and receipt workflows for smaller screens, so a smartphone can serve a small kiosk while a larger shop uses a computer with a scanner and thermal printer.
Keeps going offline
Install Xduka POS as a PWA and the register stays usable without a connection. A store setting controls whether tills can complete recorded sales while offline. Queued work syncs when you reconnect, and live payment rails such as STK push wait until you are back online.
Accountability built in
Every sale is made under a staff login and linked to the active shift. Refunds are restricted to roles with refund permission, and inventory is restored automatically when an order is refunded.
Who it is for
- Minimarts and supermarkets that need barcode speed.
- Hardware stores with large catalogs and split payments.
- Pharmacies and cosmetics shops that value clear records and digital receipts.
- Boutiques and electronics shops offering Lipa Polepole.
